Our Curriculum Intent
The Curriculum at Little Horsted CE Primary School
Curriculum Intent
At Little Horsted CE Primary, our curriculum grows from our Christian vision: Live, Love, Learn in the Light of the Lord. We believe every child is unique, and we aim to nurture the whole child so they flourish academically, socially and spiritually.
As a small rural school, we create a warm, caring environment where relationships are strong and every child is known and valued.
Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum, but is enriched with experiences that spark curiosity, kindness, creativity, and resilience.
We offer a broad, engaging curriculum that encourages children to explore, think deeply and develop confidence in who they are. Through vibrant, hands‑on learning, we support each child to grow their talents, develop a love of learning, and feel ready for the next stage of their journey as they Live, Love, Learn in the Light of the Lord.
Key Principles
At Little Horsted, we believe that every child is precious, unique, and held in God’s light. We aim to guide our children so that they:
- Grow in confidence and independence, developing resilience and a joyful enthusiasm for learning.
- Live out our school values in all they do, deepening their understanding of how these values shape them and help them serve both our school family and the wider world.
- Show kindness, empathy, and compassion, celebrating diversity and recognising the dignity of every person.
- Achieve well across the whole curriculum, using their gifts and talents to the full.
- Develop a rich understanding of the wider world, appreciating both their own culture and the many cultures that make our world so vibrant.
- Cherish our local area, using the beauty and opportunities of our rural community to enhance their learning.
- Hold hopes and aspirations for the future, showing determination, courage, and perseverance.
- Feel ready and well‑prepared for the next stage of their learning journey.
Above all, we want each child to know they are loved, to discover who they are called to be, and to grow into people who use their light to make a positive difference in God’s world.
Curriculum
Our curriculum follows learning journeys in each class, taking into account our geographical location, the local farming community and the rich historical heritage of the area as well as meeting all the National Curriculum requirements.
We follow the National Curriculum programmes of study in Years 1-6 and in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) we use the EYFS framework and Development Matters documents.
Please see the subject pages to the right for more information about each subject.
