The Curriculum at Little Horsted CE Primary School
Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum puts the child at the centre of our caring and nurturing Christian school, where positive relationships, based on mutual trust and respect are at the heart of everything we do. Our ambitious curriculum has been designed to take account of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the Primary National Curriculum.
It exposes our children to enriching experiences, through progressive knowledge and skills; equipping them with personal characteristics which will support them in their learning and holistic development. Through the delivery of our creative curriculum we ensure that our children are immersed in vibrant experiences, allowing each of them to express themselves as an individual – ‘Let Your Light Shine’.
The key principles behind the design of our curriculum are for our children to:
- be confident, independent and resilient; displaying an enthusiasm for learning
- have the school values embedded in their learning, developing their understanding of these values and how they can be supported in our school and wider community.
- be kind; showing empathy and compassion whilst valuing diversity
- achieve academically across the entire curriculum
- be culturally knowledgeable about our country and our world
- value and use our locality and all that it offers for our learning
- have aspirations for the future and demonstrate determination and hard work
- be well prepared for the challenges of the secondary school curriculum.
Ultimately, we want all of our children, to be the best they can be, making a positive contribution to the world in which they live.
Our curriculum follows learning journeys in each class, taking into account our geographical location, the local farming community and the rich historical heritage of the area as well as meeting all the National Curriculum requirements.
We follow the National Curriculum programmes of study in Years 1-6 and in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) we use the EYFS framework and Develoment Matters documents.
Please see the subject pages to the right for more information about each subject (currently under construction)
Class pages have further details about the areas we study in each term as well as the curriculum coverage for each year group.
