Mathematics INTENT statement
Mathematics is a vital and creative subject that not only helps us understand the world around us but also empowers us to change it. At Little Horsted CE Primary School, we aim for every child to experience the beauty, power, and joy of mathematics, while developing a deep sense of curiosity and a clear understanding of the subject.
We believe in fostering a positive mindset, where we encourage the idea that ‘We can all do maths!’ Our teaching is rooted in helping students build a solid, deep understanding of mathematical concepts through well-paced, manageable steps. Mistakes and misconceptions are seen as valuable learning opportunities, and we actively use them to support growth.
Through rich, challenging problems, we offer all children the chance to apply their knowledge creatively and flexibly, encouraging them to explore and become true masters of the content. At Little Horsted, our students are not just learning math—they are developing the skills to think critically, problem-solve, and apply their learning in a variety of meaningful ways.
