Computing Intent statement
At Little Horsted CE Primary School, our computing curriculum is designed to equip children with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world. Through a carefully planned progression of learning, pupils develop an understanding of computing systems and networks, creative use of digital media, programming, and data handling. From using technology purposefully in Key Stage 1 to exploring variables, databases, and physical computing in Key Stage 2, children are encouraged to become not only confident users of technology but also imaginative creators and logical problem-solvers.
Our intent is that computing is not taught in isolation but is a powerful tool for communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking across the curriculum. Children learn to write and debug programs, design animations, podcasts, and games, and present data meaningfully, while also gaining a strong awareness of online safety and responsible use of technology. By providing opportunities to apply these skills in authentic contexts, whether creating a stop-frame animation, building a 3D model, or designing a quiz, pupils learn to use technology as both consumers and producers. In doing so, we aim to inspire curiosity, resilience, and digital literacy, preparing our learners to flourish as informed, responsible, and innovative citizens of the future.
